More Success for Senior Hockey Team

South East League Final

Two finals in two w eeks! The team were confident going into this match but Kilmac were tough opponents who were determined to win.  Orla Butler continued her scoring run after sweeping the ball in from the left hand side in the first half. Kilmac equalised in the second half - another final was going to extra time! The match could not be decided even then, nail-biting penalty flicks followed. Jessica O’Brien, Laura Breen and Ruth Breen scored the Ursuline penalties and Rachel Moore ( 5th yr) in goal saved three penalties in a row. The Ursuline team did not have to finish taking their five penalties as it was impossible to beat three-nil. Great excitement followed again as the team realised they had won both the League and the Cup in two weeks. Just as well our sixth year twins Aoife and Orla  Butler were captains for the double!

Senior B Cup Final Joy

The Ursuline Hockey team travelled to Kilkenny for the second time in two weeks to take on a very strong Loreto team.  The game was evenly matched but a move from Elizabeth Kinsella Kent into midfield proved that the Ursuline were the more dynamic team. Both teams had their chances from short corners but did not take them. After full-time the match was still dead-locked and moved into extra time.  A wonderful opportunity came from a pass from Aoife Stockdale to Orla Butler, who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper with one touch. Ursuline held onto their advantage as both teams tired. When the final whistle blew, our fifth year supporters ran onto the pitch for a well-deserved celebration.

First Year A V Newtown, Waterford

First Year A's were extremely unlucky to be defeated by Newtown on Wednesday 2nd of March. The game was played by both teams at a very high standard and all players should be very proud. The score-line read 0-0 at half time, with both teams having made great attacks and having been denied goals by two excellent goalkeepers. Carmen Chan the Ursuline goalkeeper made some great saves, and has been excellent all year. The second half truly showed the up and coming talent with exceptional play from Anna Kelly in centre mid-field and great strikes by Rachel Mc Donald. With five minutes to go Newtown succeeded in breaking down the Ursuline defence and scored to make it 1-0. In the closing minutes of the game the Ursuline came extremely close to making it 1-1, but unfortunately shots from both Rachel Mc Donald and Ro
