Congratulations to our First and Second Year Orienteering squads who competed in the Munster Championships last Friday. Both squads finished 2nd in their team events.


Congratulations to all those who took part in the South East Orienteering Championships yesterday. The effort and attitude of everyone was superb, which was reflected the excellent results:

First Year Event: 1st Loma Aylward; 2nd Sarah Whelan; 3rd Kate Maguire

Results in the Junior Event: 1st Sally Brown; 2nd Carrie Mullane; 3rd Jennifer Hayes

Senior Event: 1st Rachel Moore; 2nd Maggie Doolan; 3rd Elizabeth Kinsella Kent

June 2011

The school had great success in the South-East Schools Championships in the RSC in Waterford. For the Minor Girls, Sally Brown (1st year) came 1st individually. The team of Sally Brown, Julie Power, Claire O’Regan and Olivia Galvin came 3rd. Rebecca English, Laura Browne, Aoife Stockdale and Laoise McGrath made up the team that came 2nd in the Juniors, while the Senior team was made up of Laoise Doyle, Orla Butler, Aoife Butler and Lydia Hearne who also came 2nd.

The girls also performed well in the Munster Championship in Fota Island in Cork. The Minor team of Sally Browne, Claire O’Regan, Julie Power and Lauren Keane came 4th. The Junior team made up of Rebecca English, Aoife Stockdale, Laoise McGrath and Laura Bermingham came 3rd, as did the Senior team of Jana Cox, Caoimhe O’Carroll, Laoise Doyle and Aoife Butler.

The school also took part in the All-Ireland Championships in Donadra Forest Park, Kildare. Sally Browne came 5th individually, while the minor team of Sally Browne, Jennifer Hayes, Charlotte Counihan and Nicole O’Gorman won the All-Ireland team title. The junior team of Laoise McGrath, Laura Bermingham, Aoife Stockdale, and Rebecca English came 3rd as a team, while Laoise McGrath came 4th individually. Our senior team of Laoise Doyle, Aoife Butler, Ciara Murphy and Ella O’Nuallain came 3rd.

December 2008

Waterford Schools Orienteering Championships.

Well done to all the girls who competed in the Waterford Schools Orienteering Championships on the 12th December. If you can remember it rained incessantly that day however the Ursuline girls did not let the weather affect their great energy and enthusiasm, and they deservedly retained the Shield for the Best Overall School .

Results. At senior level the team of Laura Cox, Laura Cullen, Nicola Power and Shirley Fan(all 5th year) won the gold medal. The Junior team of Laura Breen, Ruth Breen Lydia Hearne and Fiona Tyndall (all 2nd year) won silver. In the first year event the Ursuline had two teams in the top three. The team of Maggie Doolan, Evelyn Farrell, Louisa Barry and Laura O'Hare won the gold medal. While the team consisting of Aisling O'Kennedy, Colleen O'Sullivan, Alice Roche and Saoirse Walsh finished in third spot. Well done to all for performing so well under difficult conditions.

May 2007

On Friday 11th May 36 students travelled to Kennedy Park, Wexford to participate in this relay orienteering event. The girls compete in teams of 3, each individual with a different course to cover, aiming to complete the three courses in the fastest combined time. Our six minor teams finished outside the medals. The juniors set a great record by taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in their event. Not to be out done the two senior teams claimed 1st and 2nd places. Winning junior team was Rachel Finnegan, Elanna Forristal and Lorraine Heffernan. The winning senior team was Beth Walsh, Kitty Walsh and Siobhan Delaney

January 2007

Ursuline win the overall cup for the first time
Twenty-seven students from the Ursuline travelled to Portlaw Wood on Thursday Jan 18th to compete in the Waterford Schools Orienteering competition. Two first year teams, two junior teams and two senior teams competed. The Senior A team of Karen Acheson, Saoirse O'Toole, Aisling Goff and Janine Cassidy all 5th years came second in the Senior girls team competition. The Senior B team of Siobhan Delaney, Kerrie Fitzek and Orla Power came 3rd team in their event.

In the Junior competition our girls did extremely well. Our 3rd years Laura Cox, Eilish Watkins finished 2nd and 3rd individuals respectively and along with their team-mates Rachel Keating and Elanna. Forristal they captured the team gold.

Our first years A were also on winning ways, when Ciara Murray, Megan Lonergan and Maire M cGrath Megan came 1st, 2nd and 3rd individually and followed closely by Jana Cox they also won 1st team prize. Finally our first years B team not to be outshone captured the 3rd team place. This team consisted of Laura Brown, Sile M cGrath, Kate Kelliher and Kate Maher.

Based on all these finishes the Ursuline won the overall trophy for the first time.

Again well done to all and keep up the training for the Munster Competition which on March 23rd.

April 2006

Twenty five Ursuline Orienteers travelled to Kilsheelan in Co. Tipperary for the Munster Schools Orienteering competition on Feb 21st. In the 1st Year event the first four home for the Ursuline were Emelia Wright, Megan O'Keeffe, Alanna Keevers and Tara Power and their collective times secured the second team placing for the school by only 8 mins.

The finishing positions of Laura Cox 3rd , Jovita Mullen 4th , Eilis Watkins 6th and Katriona Dennison 7th secured the gold team medal for the 2nd year team. The 4th year team although running a great race were out of the medals.

So now all training was focused on the Irish Schools competition in Doneraile Forest Park on April 4th. Eleven first years took part in the training weekend in the Comeraghs on the weekend before the Irish Schools competition and this training paid off. Twenty nine students travelled to Doneraile. It was a beautiful day and the course was fast which suited our girls. The 1st and 2nd year teams were again in the medals. The first year team having benefited from the map reading training won silver. They were Dearbhla Coll, Treasa Doorley, Tara Power and Elannah Forristal. The same 2nd year team that captured the Munster title won bronze in the All-Irelands.
